Though not a dedicated gluten-free bakery, Five Bites Cupcakes in Wellesley, MA bakes gluten-free cupcakes every Thursday and Friday. Vanilla and chocolate (contain dairy) are the standard flavors but occasionally a special flavor may be featured such as the Chocolate Coconut or Chocolate Caramel, both futher enhanced with a cream filled center.

The cupcakes are made fresh each day using only trans fat-free ingredients. The gluten-free items utilize the same oven as the regular ones but are always baked at a separate time and kept in a separate area . Nuts are present in the bakery which prompts the warning “All cupcakes may contain traces of nuts.”

Glutenus Minimus products are also sold here.

Special orders are welcome with the stipulation that orders greater than one hundred must be placed at least four days in advance. If you just need a dozen or so, 24 hours advance notice is fine. Be sure to check out some of the incredible designs that make some of these cupcakes almost too pretty to consume. Delivery is available to the towns of Wellesley, Natick, Sherborn, Weston and Wayland.

The Rice Barn in Needham Ma, serves up delicious, contemporary Thai and Asian cuisine. They emphasize preparing their dishes with the finest and freshest ingredients and they do not use any trans fat. Vegan and wheat-free (gluten-free) selections are available. They have a gluten-free menu in the restaurant which has numerous choices. I’m told that more gluten-free items are being added and an online menu is in the works. While the staff is very willing to help accomodate dietary restrictions, if you have to stay away from peanuts and/or tree nuts be aware that this may be an impossible request. Tree nuts and peanuts are commonplace here and there is even a warning that “all items may contain traces of peanuts or tree nuts”.

The Nimrod Restaurant & Jazz Lounge is located in Falmouth, Massachusetts on beautiful Cape Cod. Included on their dinner menu is a clearly marked gluten free section. There are numerous choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts. They even offer gluten-free rolls! There are some gluten-free choices for lunch as well. After contacting Chef Jim Murry, I was told that they can accomodate most food intolerances, especially if notified in advance. They never use trans fats or MSG and very rarely use corn oil. The staff is trained to deal with specific dietary needs and allergies. The Chef is dilligent when it comes to preventing cross contamination and changes his cooking surfaces and utensils before preparing food for his food allergic patrons. He is able to serve customers with food restricitons any time the restaurant is open, but appreciates when customers avoid peak busy times so that the staff can give their full attention to the meal.
