Providence’s Nice Slice offers gluten-free pizza that is also free of soy, dairy and egg! This W.O.M.P Pizzeria (Word Of Mouth Pizza) has spread locally throughout the gluten-free/vegan community with rave reviews about this palate pleasing pizza ! The 10 inch crust is available with a number of toppings including a vegan cheese. Other toppings include the typical meats (however, grilled chicken and some of the vegan toppings are not gluten-free) and veggies, but also newfangled toppings like dried cranberries, arugula and almonds! If you’re interested in a ‘build your own” pie there is an assortment of sauces besides tomato sauce. There is a choice of bbq, buffalo, pesto, parm/ranch, s.w. chipotle and peppercorn.
The gluten-free pizza is made to order and, thus, will require more time to prepare than a traditional pizza. To decrease the potential for cross-contamination, the cooks are trained to thoroughly clean the prep area, wash their hands and use clean pizza pans before fulfilling each gluten-free order. With that being said, they have the following advisory noted on the gluten-free menu:
“While our par baked pizza crusts are 100% gluten free, our pizzas are prepared to order in an enviorment with wheat flour present. We do our very best to keep these pizzas isolated from any wheat contact. However, there is airborn wheat flour in the shop.” So buyer beware! If you do want to give it a try, as always, I suggest you visit during the non-peak hours so there’s less likely to be significant airborne wheat flour.
