About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

Mountain Spirits Tavern’s Gluten-Free Thanksgiving Dinner!

How long has it been since you were able to dine in a restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner?  Well, now is your chance.  There is still time to make reservations at the Mountain Spirits Tavern located in the beautiful Mountain Edge Resort & Spa  on Route 103 in Newbury, NH.  The Thanksgiving Dinner menu caters to traditional dinners but they have also customized many of the traditional favorites to accomodate the gluten and dairy-free needs of their guests!  Proprietor Kerry Behrens is dilligent about educating the staff on the issues surrounding food preparation. She is a great source to do so because she is living with multiple food allergies herself!

The gluten-free Thanksgiving Dinner includes fruit cocktail and sparkling cider which is followed by the star of the day; a moist and delicious carved turkey.  You don’t need to pass on the gravy this year because there will be a gluten and dairy-free version for you!  Also gluten and dairy-free are the stuffing, bread, winter squash and roasted vegetables.  And we can’t forget the mashed potatoes (dairy-free available upon request), and of course, the always gluten and dairy-free but ever so important cranberry sauce.  The goodness doesn’t end here, however.   For dessert there will be a gluten-free/dairy-free pie and Indian pudding which will be served with ice cream. Soy ice cream is also an option.

This special Thanksgiving Dinner is worth the drive and is available by reservation only.    It costs $24.95 per adult, $12.95 for children ages 6-12, and is FREE for children ages 5 and under!  To reserve your spot email reservations@mountainedgeresort.com or call 877-468-3343 and be sure to mention your dietarty needs.

The Mountain Edge Resort & Spa can accomodate your dietary needs year round as well.  They are considering adding a permanent gluten-free/dairy-free menu to their restaurant and would love your input. So, Freedom to Dine readers, if you’d like to see this come to fruition, please consider sending them an email (reservations@mountainedgeresort.com) showing your interest and to let them know that there is great demand for such a menu.  Remember, the point of this website is to increase the awareness of our needs, and here is our chance!
