About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

Angelo’s Ristorante-Delicious, Made to Order, Allergen Friendly Italian!

Gluten-free pizza from Angelo's Ristorante
Gluten-free pizza from Angelo’s Ristorante

Angelo’s Ristorante  in Stoneham, Ma., serves gluten-free pasta and pizza!   The crust is dairy-free as well and is made with rice flour, tapioca starch and potato starch (contains soy and egg whites).  The crust is purchased through French Meadow Bakery . This helps decrease the  risk of cross-contamination because each crust is partially baked in it’s own tin where it remains until it reaches the customer.

We recently ordered two pizzas for take-out and were very pleased. Even our gluten tolerant family members felt that the pizza was similar to “regular” pizza. The sauce was delicious and there was a good number of toppings from which to choose. The gluten-free pizza is available in the small size only and it is priced the same as the traditional pizza, which we really appreciate!   Besides the pizza, there are many salads and an extensive list of delicious looking entrees that are, or have the potential to be, allergen friendly.  This is because they are made to order (sauces too) and thus, more easily altered to meet one’s needs.  Just tell your server of your dietary concerns before ordering.  Owner Angelo Caruso is diligent in making sure that the gluten-free pasta is cooked in a new, clean pot with fresh water and drained with a clean strainer.  Also, there is a separate cutting area and designated utensils for the gluten-free pizza.

The restaurant has a dine-in section along with the take-out.  I look forward to returning to try some more of their dishes.  And for those lucky ones living in the Stoneham area – they deliver!
