About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

Muddy Rudder

The Muddy Rudder has been known as the type of place to accomodate gluten-free diners and, more recently, they’ve made it even easier by creating a gluten-free menu!  Located in Yarmouth, Maine with an incredibly picturesque view, there are many naturally gluten-free dishes offered here.  These are found on both the gluten-free lunch and gluten-free  dinner menus!  Included are what you might expect to find in a  seafood restaurant, but besides the naturally gluten-free musssels, shrimp, oysters, lobster, etc.,  you will also find gluten-free subsititutions for some of the otherwise prohibited dishes.

Gluten-free pasta is available for the following dishes; the Chicken Pasta (grilled chicken, roasted tomato, spinach & parmesan cream sauce), Clams & Penne ( littleneck clams with garlic white wine sauce), the Scampi (shrimp, scallops, lobster and tomatoes with a garlic white wine butter sauce) or the Seafood Fra Diavolo (scallops, lobster, shrimp, mussels and fish with the signature spicy red sauce). Daily specials are offered as well and occassionally may fit in with your dietary needs.  The Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass with a tomato green olive salad and smashed fingerling potatoes or the Pan Seared Scallops served over crab meat and red pepper parmesan risotto are two that come to mind.

Although you won’t see a dessert menu, I’m told that gluten-free options are available daily. These include a deliciously rich molten chocolate lava cake or refreshing sorbet for those needing a dairy-free alternative. The latter is offered in the tempting varieties of pear, mango and green apple.   At times, dessert specials are offered such as the panna cotta or chocolate mousse.  So, call ahead to see what they have up their sleeve on the day of your visit!
