About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

If you are visiting the “Beautiful Place by the Sea” make sure you stop by Julie’s Ristorante .  Located on Route 1 in Ogunquit,  this establishment offers gluten-free appetizers, entrees and desserts!  They have a gluten-free menu showing some of their offerings such as chicken wings, garlic sticks and chicken tenders as well as lasagna and chicken parmigianaEverything is made to order so the staff is very receptive to adapting the menu to meet one’s dietary needs, when possible.

Many of the selections contain dairy but there are other choices available that you may not see online. Alternative dishes can be prepared with ingredients kept on hand. For instance, a gluten-free, dairy-free dish can be made with rice pasta and vegetables.  The homemade soups are made daily and are always gluten-free and often allergen friendly.  Julie’s Ristorante recently began serving gluten-free bagels which can be eaten as an egg breakfast sandwich or as a lunch sandwich.  Panini sandwiches and pizza are also available. They are made of the same dough which consists of rice flour, cornstarch and tapioca flour (contains egg, milk and soy).  Desserts, bars and muffins can also be purchased (some have dairy and/or nuts).

Next time you head out to the spend the day at the beach you don’t have to be hungry and empty handed. Food can be ordered as take-out, eat-in or can be delivered for free, if local.  Offsite catering is available and  gluten-free gift baskets are available for purchase which they can also ship or deliver.

I’m going to try Julie’s this summer when I visit Maine with my family. The ravioli look delicious! Thanks again for a great tip!

  • Bob:

I tried those ravioli’s and they were delicious. We had wings with a really good dipping sauce and the chicken fingers. It was all so good, you would never guess it was all gluten free.
