About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

Max’s Tavern

The Max Restaurant Group has expanded beyond Connecticut and into Massachusetts.  Their newest location, Max’s Tavern, is conveniently located in Springfield right next to the Basketball Hall of Fame.   A five course gluten-free dinner event was recently held here and even included vodka martinis!

This group of restaurants (currently at 11) is well known for their exceptional food quality and the willingness to accomodate customers with special dietary needs. One of the restaurants, Max Oyster Bar  in West Hartford,CT, has a gluten-free menu available upon request.  The Hot Lobster Roll and Baked Stuffed Lobster are just a few of the gluten-free specialties. Another restautant on the group, Max Burger also in West Hartford, CT, has gluten-free dinner rolls (also dairy-free) available upon request.  Their ‘Grateful Veg’ burger is a gluten-free burger made with quinoa and sunflower seeds. Skip the cheese to make it dairy-free as well. Gluten-free whoppie pies (contain dairy and egg) are a dessert option and New Grist gluten-free beer is served here too.
