About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

Bertucci’s New Gluten-Free Menu!

Bertucci’s has developed a gluten-free menu in cooporation with the Gluten Intolerance Group.  This full menu includes appetizers, salads, soup, entrees and desserts!  Creative, thoughtful dishes are offered and many are vegetarian too.  A variety of chicken, salmon and eggplant dishes are listed under the entree section and there are six side dishes to choose from. These vegetable based sides are presented in combinations that blend well such as the Spinach & Artichokes, or the Roasted Tuscan Vegetables which consists of peppers, artichokes, zucchini, eggplant, broccoli, tomato and garlic, all baked together in the brick oven.  They didn’t forget about us with dessert either. There are two to try; the Bomba (contains nuts, dairy) and the Chocolate Budino (contains dairy), a mousse type dessert.

I must confess that I am  wondering where the gluten-free pasta and pizza are, but still so very grateful that this restaurant has chosen to accomodate gluten-free diners.  With 90 locations in ten states, it makes traveling the Eastern coast a bit easier. I look forward to a visit and also look forward to hearing how you enjoyed this new menu. Please comment and let us know!

Update

I finally made it to Bertucci’s to try the new gluten-free menu and I was very impressed!  The hostess and server were both well aware of the new menu and the server took the time to explain how gluten-free dishes are prepared to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.  For instance, the Insalata is the same dish as on the regular menu, but I could not share from my dining partners’ platter because my salad was prepared in a newly washed bowl with designated gluten-free utensils.

The Eggplant Parma was chosen as my entree and it was simply delicious.  Nothing was lacking here!  The eggplant was not breaded, and therefore, not  heavy or greasy.  The marinara sauce was also very fresh and light.  If you need to live dairy-free as well, it would make a nice gluten and dairy-free item by omitting the cheese topping.   This dish was accompanied by perfectly cooked, crisp green beans.  I’ll definitely return to try some of the other choices.

One Response to “Bertucci’s New Gluten-Free Menu!”

Hi, I was so pleased to read your reveiw and discover that Bertucci’s now has a gluten-free menu. I visited this week and had a very pleasant dinner. My waiter was also well informed about the menu and patiently answered all my questions. The only thing I missed were the rolls – if only they would offer gluten-free rolls! I would recommend the chocolate mousse for dessert, it was very rich and tasty.
