I don’t think I’d be skinny if I were a frequent patron of The Skinny Pancake . This creperie offers an assortment of sweet and savory dishes that are just too hard to resist! And they will cater to your gluten-free or vegan needs! Gluten-free buckwheat pancakes are one of the batter options. They have an incredible variety of crepes ranging from the delicious Johnny Crepe which is made of pulled pork, carmelized onions and cheese folded into a crepe, or the Coconut Curried Potato Crepe made from sweet and Russet potatoes. The Deja Vu Crepe is a bit sweeter with Vermont’s own sweet Italian sausage, Champlain orchard apples and Cabot cheddar cheese. This is served with a side of maple syrup. While the Bananaganza mimics a classic banana split (contains nuts).

They also offer cheese fondue in five varieties. Or, for dessert, there is the Classic Chocolate fondue and a Maple Cream fondue. I’d like to visit during the Folk & Fondue Music Series every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. Sounds fun!

Kismet Kitchen in Montpelier, VT, is an environmentally conscious restaurant specializing in local, organic and free trade products as well as free range and hormone free meats. Their tagline is like music to the food allergic/intolerant community; “We take great pleasure in our ability to accomodate wheat, gluten and dairy-free diets”. Such a different and welcomed attitude! Far from the all too common negative sigh and roll of the eyes that I have encountered by waitstaff when they hear my dietary requests!

Kismet Kitchen is open for breakfast and lunch Wednesday through Sunday and have come up with a very creative menu. If eggs are not part of your diet, you can substitute with a tofu scramble, or try the buckwheat crepes which are vegan and gluten-free. Hormone free cow’s milk, organic, unsweetened soy milk and organic hemp milk is available. All soups can be made dairy and meat free (Actually, anything here can be made vegetarian or vegan!) and gluten free bread is available for the sandwiches for an additional $1.00. For dessert, there is flourless chocolate cake or organic, free trade truffles (gluten and dairy-free) which are available in a variety of flavors.

No need to bring your credit cards here. Cash or checks only accepted.
