And they are willing to accomodate special diets including gluten-free! By calling ahead a day or two before your visit (or even hours before, if not the busy season), Chef Bryant can go over your needs and collaborate with you to come up with some scrumptuous dishes!

On our serendipitous visit, we noticed some gluten-free choices in the case (segregated to one side). These were the Risotto Cakes (contain cheese) and the Gluten-Free Coconut Chicken. But, we also discovered that there are many daily offerings that are made gluten-free such as the Broccoli Salad, Haddock and Steak Kabobs. However, Chef Bryant still advised us to call in our orders ahead of time so he could personally oversee the process and ensure safe cooking practices.

Surprisingly, this Italian restaurant doesn’t offer gluten-free pasta but does serve many hearty entrees (most feature meat,  but hopefully vegetarians can be accomodated with the Wild Mushroom Risotto).  Also on the menu are Assaggi or “small plates”, Antipasti and Salads. The latter have the option of being prepared with some protein such as Rosemary Hanger Steak, Wood Grilled Salmon, Giant Grilled Shrimp or Rosemary & Garlic Grilled Chicken.  We were pleased to see the nice selection of sides, especially the Truffle Parmigiano Fries.   However, upon further investigation, we discovered these are cooked in a shared fryer and therefore  NOT an option for my family.

Oh well, I do think it is still worth the trip to check out this magnificent, two-storied restaurant with roaring fireplaces.  Sometimes, ambiance is as much of a draw as the cuisine!  If you plan to visit, be aware that reservations are only allowed for parties of seven or more.  Call ahead seating is available for smaller parties.

The pizza crusts are brought in from a dedicated gluten-free bakery and are also egg and dairy-free (contain corn starch).  The gluten-free pasta dishes are  prepared with rice pasta and gluten-free cornbread and crostini (the latter contains corn starch, eggs & dairy)) are also on the menu!  Weekly specials are also offered and are sometimes gluten-free as well. Some examples of past specials include;  Pesto Chicken- chicken sauteed in a cream pesto sauce served over pasta, Cilantro Chicken- chicken and peppers with a cajun cilantro lime cream sauce, Buffalo Chicken Dip- a spicy and cheesy dip served with crostini and Chicken Satay- a marinated and grilled chicken satay in peanut sauce served over jasmine rice.

Care is taken to decrease the risk of cross-contamination by preparing gluten-free orders in a separate area of the kitchen, using dedicated utensils and wearing gloves.  The specially prepared dishes are flagged with a toothpick to alert servers (and customers).

Vegetarian and vegan wraps are offered as well.  Gluten-free brown rice wraps or nori are available for those of us needing gluten-free, however, I suggest you call ahead as the brown rice wraps are a hit or miss item, but the nori is always plentiful in supply. Or, you can forgo the wrap and have the fixings in a salad form instead.  There is one item on the wrap menu that is available in a raw form, the Nori Wrap.  It is made with rice, carrots, red cabbage, sprouts and avocado and is served with gluten-free tamari soy sauce.

This cozy cafe is the perfect place to enjoy healthy food on a warm summer day. Don’t wait too long before you visit~they’re only open seasonally from April to early November.

It’s suggested that you call ahead with reservations and to mention your gluten-free needs at that time, and again upon initially meeting you server (well, that is second nature to us, isn’t it?).

There are also Chen Yang Li locations in Bedford and Bow, NH where they offer a more limted selection of gluten-free entrees on their menu but I’m told they will modify other dishes to accomodate your needs, whenever possible. Best to ask for the manager or owner if you chose to goes this route.

The menu includes a selection of naturally gluten-free items such as the salads, which can be made more substantial with the addition of tuna or chicken salad, grilled chicken, salmon or steak tips.  Other items can be modified to suit your needs. After speaking with Chef Kevin, I suggest you call ahead before your visit so he can be sure there are gluten-free options available to you (i.e. gf bread).

Many salads are available, just be sure to request no croutons and inquire about specific dressings.  More good news is that the BBQ Ribs and Wings are gluten-free too!

Owner Chris wants us to keep in mind that the grill is shared with the gluten-containing crepes, however, it is wiped down for each order.  Also, a separate, designated roselle (wooden rake) is used for the batter.  Note that nuts and peanuts are featured on quite a few of the sweet crepes.

What better to go along with one of these scrumptious crepes than a cup of tea, coffee, expresso or one of their fresh fruit smoothies.  Many of the naturally gluten-free smoothies are also free of dairy such as the Banana/Mango and Blueberry/Peach flavors. 

I’d say a visit to this affordable family friendly creperie is in order!

In addition, soups are offered daily.  Call ahead to see what is being offered. It might be French Onion Soup (made with gluten-free croutons), Minestrone with brown rice pasta or the refreshing Tomato Spinach and Basil soup.   On Fridays gluten-free pizza is offered !
