About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

The Hard Rock Cafe recently revamped their menu!  This occurred only after a careful evaluation of their entire menu from appetizers and entrees to their desserts and even their cocktails!  The lengthy process took 14 months but resulted in deliciously updated dishes.

The Director of Culinary Development, Mike Zajak, Jr., is quoted as saying  ”The menu redesign reflects our ever-present commitment to bringing guests fresh, authentic scratch-based offerings.”  Of course hearing “scratch-based”  alerts those of us with food concerns that the menu may be accommodating to our needs.  Thankfully, that is exactly how Hard Rock Cafe feels towards their guests with food allergies and intolerances!  They even have numerous “allergy kits” where designated tools, cutting boards, etc for those needing gluten-free, dairy-free, nut free (and more) are stored separately and used in a segregated area of the prep kitchen.  Management has the ability and willingness to go over items in detail with their helpful ingredient lists.

Recently, we were invited to sample a variety of the new dishes offered.  There are three salads offered, Grilled Chicken Chop Salad, Cobb Salad and the Grilled Chicken Arugula Salad, which is the one we tried.  It was a pleasant mix of baby arugula, thinly sliced grilled chicken with dried cranberries and fresh oranges tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette and topped with feta cheese.  Another new addition is the Cowboy Rib Eye. It is a huge 16-oz bone-in aged steak served with maitre d’ butter (as of this writing order without the butter since it is made with a brand of worcestershire sauce containing wheat).  The Grilled Norwegian Salmon is another new entree and can be served gluten-free by altering the sweet and spicy BBQ sauce, and, again, omitting the butter.

A line up of Legendary Burgers and Sandwiches were sampled next.  These can be ordered with gluten-free rolls!!  The flavorful Fiesta Burger is layered with roasted jalapeño salsa, melted Jack cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce and vine-ripened tomato.  The Tango Burger is an explosion of flavors perfect for summer!  It’s made with a Black Angus Premium Burger and topped with homemade tangy BBQ sauce (may need to be modified for gluten-free), their own Sloppy Joe mix (may need to be modified for gluten-free), melted Jack and American cheese, blue cheese crumbles and a horseradish mayo.  A vegetarian choice, the Grilled Vegetable Sandwich, was in sharp contrast to the relatively heavier burgers but still packed as much flavor!  Marinated and grilled portobello mushrooms, yellow squash, zucchini, roasted red peppers and grilled asparagus are topped with Monterey Jack cheese and balsamic glaze and are served on a grilled gluten-free roll with tarragon mayonnaise.

Adding a smoker was part of the revamp too and led to some fantastic, authentic barbecue!  Barbecue Chicken, Hickory-Smoked Ribs and Smoked Beef Brisket (sandwich) are new additions as are the surprisingly light and refreshing Citrus Spiked Coleslaw and the Cowboy Beans which were a more spicy take on traditional baked beans.

Gluten-free desserts were not as readily available in number as compared to the rest of the menu. However, the Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae can be served  without the brownie.  It ‘s quite a sight being served in a colossal margarita glass!!  What better way to end a perfect summer meal?!
