About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

This site is to be used as a reliable guide. It does not guarantee a safe dining experience. Chefs, menus and policies change regularly. Verify all information for yourself.

The Sweet Beet~100% Gluten-Free!!

Newly opened, The Sweet Beet in Granby, CT, is an entirely gluten-free bakery and cafe!  Their shop is also free of peanut, dairy, eggs, soy, GMO’s and animal products!  The owners are parents of a child with food allergies and, therefore, sensitive to customers’ dietary needs.

Here, everything is made from scratch (with the exception of the pre-packaged snack items) so it takes away a lot of the guesswork involved in dining out!

Besides catering to the vegan crowd, they also are Paleo-friendly. Organic products are used whenever possible, which is a large percentage of the time.   Some of the pre-made meals include the Cottage Pie (their version of Shepherd’s Pie). It’s made with lentils, roasted vegetables and a potato crust.  The Mac No Cheese is a favorite (contains cashew “cheese”)  as is the 3 Bean Chili (skip the cashew “cream” topping,  if necessary) and both are frequently on the menu.  Other entrees include Rutabaga Lasagna, Quinoa dishes, Savory Broccoli Pie, Savory Italian Pie, Savory Butternut Squash and Pesto Pie and Pasta Nofredo. These (and more) are available “to-go” in double-sized portions.

Soups and salads are available for take-out or dine-in.  A sampling of the soups (rotate daily) include the Roasted Yam & Squash soup, Parsnip soup, Green Goddess soup, Potato Leek soup and Pesto Potato Soup with Celery.  Salads can be topped with protein rich quinoa or chickpeas.

For something sweet, they offer muffins, cupcakes and “Sweet Cakes” which resemble little cakes covered in chocolate. They also have a “Sweet Beet” variety! Larger, custom cakes are available by pre-ordering.
