About Us
Dining away from home can be a challenge for those managing food allergies and intolerances or special dietary needs. As a registered dietitian, as well as a mother of children with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for a safe place to eat. This site came about due to the necessity of finding restaurants receptive to serving customers with food allergies and special dietary concerns. Our goal is to increase the awareness within the restaurant community so that we may once again experience the freedom to dine away from home.

This site is to be used as a reliable guide. It does not guarantee a safe dining experience. Chefs, menus and policies change regularly. Verify all information for yourself.

Root ~ Plant-Inspired Food & Juicery

From the same people that brought us vegan ice cream over at FoMu, just a few doors down, we find Root ! This cozy eatery takes the place of the former tenant, Peace O’ Pie. However, they continue the tradition of creating tasty dishes composed entirely of plant-based ingredients.  This cuisine is sure to please omnivores as well!


The menu consists of “Big Bites” (burgers and sandwiches) and “Small Bites” (an eclectic mix of finger foods), salads and juices.  Most of the food is made from scratch (even the ketchup!) and is locally sourced whenever possible.  The menu is seasonal, but I am told they are always conscious of having gluten-free choices available.  Gluten-free wraps are always available for the sandwiches or sandwiches can be served over greens or quinoa, if preferred.

Updated, in-house menus include allergy icons. Some of the current gluten-free seasonal items that debuted this fall include the Warm Kale Salad and Curried Quinoa Risotto.  Sauteed kale is combined with roasted butternut squash, sweet onion, cranberries, and pepitas and is drizzled with a citrus miso vinaigrette. The Curried Quinoa Risotto contains portobellos, sweet onion, sage, and butternut squash.

Brunch has a few gluten-free offerings as well.  The House Scramble is made from tofu, cream sauce, sautéed Portobello mushrooms and sweet onion and comes with home fries.  The Breakfast wrap is filled with tofu, cream sauce, sautéed Portobello mushrooms, sweet onion, and kale.  A gluten-free muffin is also usually on the Brunch menu.  For instance, they have a pumpkin muffin (made with sorghum, tapioca and rice flours) that is  topped with walnut strudel!

A big lure into Root has got to be the fresh juices and homemade beverages!

Veg Blend: Carrot, Beet, Kale, Lemon
Green: Cucumber, Kale, Green apple, Lime
Beetnik: Beet, Orange, Fennel

Honey Lindenflower Iced Tea
Cucumber Mojito
Ginger Tang
